About GATE

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) is a national-level test organized for students who want to get admission to a Master's program or post-graduate engineering (ME/M.Tech). It is a national examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science(IISc), Bangalore, and the seven Indian Institute of Technology at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)- GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Why GATE Exam is Important?

The opportunities for engineers open after qualifying the GATE, hence GATE Exam is important for engineering students. Some opportunities are listed below:

  1. Study Abroad: The GATE Exam scores are also used by some renowned foreign universities, including Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), National University of Singapore (Singapore), Technical University of Munich (Germany), and Aachen University (Germany), etc. So, if you want to study abroad, here is your chance.
  2. PG Programs in India: Students can use their GATE Exam Score card to seek admission for M.E./ M.Tech / PhD from the top colleges of the country which include IITs, NITs. The job opportunities for ME/M. Tech graduates are popular in the market.
  3. Public Sector Undertaking (PSU): The GATE scorecard is also considered by the PSUs. From last few years PSUs like BHEL, GAIL, HAL, IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, NPCIL, PGCI, etc have decided that a GATE Exam Score shall be the primary criteria for initial shortlisting this is big reason of Why GATE Exam is Important.
  4. Earn and Learn: M.Tech students receive a monthly stipend. While student pursuing PhD earn more than M.Tech syudents. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and SRF (Senior Research Fellowship) in CSIR, DST, DBT, ICMR, DRDO, ISRO, IIS, etc.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE entrance exam:

  1. Candidates must have passed graduation in engineering/ technology or a Master's degree in any relevant science subject.
  2. Candidates who are in the pre-final or final year of their degree course are also eligible for the GATE exam.
  3. Candidates from overseas must be currently in the 3rd or higher year or completed their bachelor's degree in engineering/technology/ science/ arts/ commerce.
  4. There is no age limit for the GATE exam.
